Sat-Sun., Nov. 7-8, 2015 -- Emancipation Days at Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park, 3610 Brookeville Road,
Olney, MD 20832. Noon to 4pm both days. At this free public event, Archaeology Volunteers will be talking about the
archaeology that has been done at Oakley Cabin, handing out Archaeology brochures, and working with visitors on crafts:
marble making and tin-smithing. At 2 pm, there will be a program where the Emancipation Proclamation is read and then there
will be a puppet show by Schroeder Cherry, “Underground Railroad”. There will be music and cooking in the cabin. For more

tool use; includes a hands-on activity! Join us at Heritage House, located at 9944 Maryland Route 108 (Clarksville Pike), Ellicott
City MD 21042 (just east of Centennial Park entrance). Business meeting, 7:00pm; program, 7:30pm. Everyone welcome!

The Lost Towns Project accepts volunteers five days a week, Monday - Friday. They also have a limited number of formal
internships available to qualified students. They have many different field and lab projects throughout the year.

Free MAC Lab tours are offered the first Friday of every month at 1 PM, and every Thursday at 11am and 1pm by lab docents.
Please take some time and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to view the MAC Lab and learn more about the

Certified Archeological Technician (CAT) Program: http://marylandarcheology.org/CAT_Program.php
The CAT Program has been developed to give members of the Archeological Society of Maryland (ASM) an opportunity to
obtain recognition for formal and extended training in the techniques and goals of archeology without having to participate in
an academic degree program. Participants are provided technical training in both the field and laboratory in conjunction with
rotational lecture/workshop series and required reading materials. Individuals who successfully complete all three areas of
the Certification Program will be designated Certified Archeological Technicians.
The following volunteer opportunities are open to CAT participants and other ASM members:
The Smithsonian Environmental Research Center seeks participants in its Citizen-Scientist Program in archaeology and other
environmental research programs in Edgewater. Archaeological field and lab work are conducted during the week and on

Montgomery County is offering opportunities for lab and field work Wednesdays, 9:30 to 2:30. Call 301-840-5848 or contact
